Echo Lake CA Hiking Trail Photos- Tahoe Rim Trail Desolation Wilderness Area : Echo Lake Trail is part of the TRT Tahoe Rim Trail system. The trail begins at a marina on Lower Echo Lake. Many hikers start with a 2 mile boat ride to the far side of upper Echo Lake, the boat ride, which costs about $10. From there you can take the popular hike along Upper and Lower Echo Lakes back to the boat launch where you put in or hike up into the Desolation Wilderness Area To Aloha Lakes. I hiked up to Tamarack Lake and the scenery was spectacular.

Granite Lake Hiking Trail- A Desolation Wilderness Trailhead in the Eldorado National Forest, Lake Tahoe Management Unit USDA Forest Service : Cascade Falls to the left, The Desolation Wilderness and Emerald Bay View Trail to the right. To get to Granite Lake it's a steep trail up a Sierra Mountain Ridge overlooking Lake Tahoe. The hike is difficult compared to other Tahoe hiking trails. Since it's wilderness bikes are prohibited.

Meiss Trail Photos- Toiyabe National Forest : Main Gallery Homepage
Meiss Lake Trail is located in the Toibe National Forest. Louis Meiss, who emigrated from Darmstadt, Germany in 1842. In 1878 he bought 1000 acres in Alpine County, CA. The Meiss family grazed catle on the property in the summer. In 1965 the USFS aquired the property for public use. The hiking trail starts at the top of Carson Pass and heads north in the direction of Lake Tahoe. The hike starts out with classic Sierra scenery, old trees and big boulders and climbs moderatly up to a high mountain meadow where the trail winds it's way thru beautiful wildflower meadows in the summer.
